Westpac OpenAir Cinema is kicking off the New Year with an absolute treat.

Each summer evening from Thursday 9 January until Friday 21 February must-see films combine with delicious food and drink, all in a luxurious harbourside venue. It truly is the best way to experience summer in the city.

The films

There is an absolute smorgasbord of cinema treats locked in for the 2020 Westpac OpenAir Cinema program. With an exciting mix of preview and premiere screenings alongside a few recently released favourites, there is something for everyone.

The Opening Night Gala is set to kick things off in style with a preview screening of Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie’s new film Bombshell. There are a stack more preview screenings locked in too. Justin Kurzel’s epic Australian tale True History of the Kelly Gang is in the mix alongside Just Mercy, A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood, Like A Boss, and more.

If music is your jam then spend an evening watching Elton John biopic Rocketman, Bruce Springsteen-soundtracked Blinded By The Light, or British-American musical fantasy Cats. Dive into captivating real-life stories like Michelle Payne’s Ride Like A Girl, legendary performer Judy Garland’s Judy, Official Secrets, or Ford V Ferrari. or is action and drama are more your thing they’ve also go Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood,Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver starring Marriage Story or the next generation in the Charlie’s Angels universe.

The food 

Every evening at Westpac OpenAir, a thousand or more guests come together to enjoy sunset views with dinner and drinks. With a delicious and diverse menu, there is something to suit every taste, preference, and dietary requirement. And this year, to make things quicker and more efficient Westpac OpenAir is going 100% cashless – make sure you bring along your credit or debit card if you plan to buy food or drinks.

Clayton Wells brings the laid back essence of Chippendale’s much-celebrated A1 Canteen to the general admission restaurant. Clayton will serve an extensive ‘grab + go’ menu of his well-renowned sandwiches alongside rotating salads and house-made pastries. From the counter, guests will be able to choose from hot dishes that include pasta, hot sandwiches, proteins, and more.

If you’re looking for something extra special, on selected nights general admission ticket holders will have to opportunity to upgrade to a table in The Lounge – an a la carte, full-service restaurant operated by renowned chef James Viles of Biota in Bowral. Featuring dishes that showcase Viles’ innovative approach to seasonal and foraged ingredients, expect a menu that highlights Australian summer produce.

To quench your thirst, The Bar serves up a range of cocktails, aperitifs, a great selection of red, white, rose and sparkling wines, beer, water and soft drinks alongside a view unlike anywhere else in Sydney.

The venue

Located at Fleet Steps in the Royal Botanic Garden, watch the screen rise up over the water, with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as the backdrop – is there a more stunning view?
