Video diary: Backstage at Regent Theatre with Ladies In Black

What better guest bloggers to have on International Women’s Day than the strong-willed women of Ladies In Black.

Having opened at Regent Theatre for a limited, three-week period, we’ve gone behind-the-scenes at the prestigious Melbourne theatre to see what the guys and gals of the show get up to backstage.

Set in Sydney in 1959, the Ladies in Black musical takes us back to a time when the city was compromised with repression of the ’50s and liberation of ’60s. The plot follows bright-eyed and bookish Lisa (Sarah Morrison) as she discovers the colourful world of prestigious department store F.G. Goodes.

That’s where she meets Fay (Ellen Simpson), Patty (Madeleine Jones), Magda (Natalie Gamsu) and Miss Cartwright (Kate Cole), whose combined and individual stories help to illustrate the inspirational tale of female individuality and strength which structures the show.

Ellen, as Fay, takes the helm of the cast’s Ticketmaster photo diary and has sent us a bunch of backstage videos, showing just how fun it is to be a lady in black. Check them out below…
