Pop Up Globe is bringing four of Shakespeare’s best to Perth, and if opening views and reviews are anything to go by, this season is not to be missed.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, Pop Up Globe is the world’s first full-scale temporary replica of the Globe Theatre in London that pops up for a limited season to perform four of the bard’s best. In just two-and-a-half years, Pop Up Globe has taken their Shakespearean party to more than half a million fans around the country, and there is a reason why they’re all still raving about it – this isn’t the Shakespeare you learnt about in Year 10 English class, this is Shakespeare alive; at its bawdy, brutal, and blood-soaked best.

If you’ve ever wanted to travel back in time and experience a Shakespearean play just as Wills himself intended, then now is your chance. Whether you want to pretend that you’re the Queen of England and sit in the seats right behind the stage or get up close and personal with the actors as a groundling (expect some heckling and perhaps a little blood and guts) Pop Up Globe has it all.

Originally planned as a one-off in Auckland to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in 2016, the Pop Up Globe was created entirely from scratch by an international company and cast in under 18 months. It took the city by storm, welcoming over 100,000 New Zealand attendances in a season extended twice by popular demand. From there, a critically-acclaimed second season in 2017 entertained another 100,000 people.

Pop Up Globe made its international debut in Melbourne in 2017, followed by a Sydney season in 2018 – with both seasons extended due to popular demand. Now it has landed in Perth.

This time around, pencil in a night inside the world of Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, or Measure for Measure – complete with stunning costumes, elaborate sets, special effects, and litres of blood.

Take a look inside the opening night of Twelfth Night.
