Could it be? Yes, it could. Something’s comin’, something good.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour are foregoing their usual genre in 2019 for something a little different. It has been announced today that Opera Australia will bring the Tony Award-winning musical West Side Story to their starlit stage on Sydney Harbour.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, with a book by Stephen Sondheim and music by Leonard Bernstein, this incredible show will be a sight to see on one of the world’s most beautiful stages.

West Side Story tells the story of two star-crossed lovers, Maria and Tony, who come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and opposing neighbourhood gangs. The musical explores issues of race, immigration and poverty in a way that is both accessible and meaningful. It is a powerful story that will be taken to a whole new level in this Handa Opera production.
