The Book of Mormon rolls out red carpet for opening night in Melbourne

The Book of Mormon was the glitziest spot in Melbourne this weekend as it welcomed celebrities and stars of the theatre world for its opening night at Princess Theatre.

After a stellar run of preview shows, the hilarious production officially opened its doors on Saturday 5 February with a host of amazing names in attendance.

Among those spotted on the red carpet were Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster-Blake, Today’s Lisa Wilkinson, Bachelorette star Georgia Love with TV beau Lee Elliott, Sam Frost, Mad Max director George Millar, Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding, Rhonda Burchmore, Livinia Nixon, Jane Bunn, Larry Edmur, Olympia Valance, Jeanne Pratt and Peter Helliar.

The evening’s guests of honour were of course the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone – who said they were nervous ahead of seeing the Oz production but admitted it was a relief to be able to sit back and enjoy the show.

The Book of Mormon follows two young missionaries (Elder Price and Elder Cunningham) who are sent to Ugandan to try to convert citizens to Mormon religion. One is a go-getter, the other, a socially awkward geek-type. Faced with the reality of famine, illness, violence and poverty, the pair quickly realise their mission isn’t quite so straight-forward.

The Book of Mormon is a 5-star success with Ticketmaster fans, earning itself a gleaming customer rating even before opening night.

“Very very funny musical. Great laughs and great songs!” said one Ticketmaster customer.

With another theatre-goer writing, “A very funny show… laughed till my cheeks hurt. Must see.” (sic)

Tickets for The Book of Mormon at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre have been the hottest seats in town since they went on sale, and it’s gaining even more momentum by the hour.

The show also proved to be one of our fastest-selling presales EVER.

The Book of Mormon is currently showing at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre until December 2017. Head over to Ticketmaster.com.au/thebookofmormon to secure your seats.
