Bonnie Lythgoe is back with a brand new Panto
Another hilarious show is heading to Melbourne and Sydney, but first, here's everything you need to know about Pantos.
Queen of Panto, Bonnie Lythgoe, is bringing the classic fairytale of Sleeping Beauty to Aussie stages this winter with a brand new Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty – A Knight Avenger’s Tale.
Lythoge has once again gathered an all-star cast including Rhonda Burchmore as Maleficent (Hot Shoe Shuffle, Mamma Mia! The Drowsy Chaperone), Real Housewives of Sydney star, Melissa Tkautz, as the good fairy and Frazer Hines as King Louis, who is best known for his role in the BBC series Doctor Who.

A Panto, or Pantomime, is a type of musical comedy based on a classic fairytale, which includes song, dance and physical comedy, along with a glittering of relevant pop culture references to make you lol.
Pantomime’s roots lie in the 16th century art form of Commedia dell’arte, an early form of theatre that utilised simple scenarios and stock character tropes to create a comedic devised work. English entertainers further developed this concept, eventually incorporating classical stories, nursery rhymes, fables and fairytales.
Although the modern Pantomime is geared toward kids there is always something in it for the adults, such as a little double entendre that goes over little heads or a touch of slapstick comedy (because people pretending to get hurt is hilarious whatever your age).
So whether you’re a kid, or just a kid at heart, you’re guaranteed to have a great time.

See the production at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre between 29 June – 8 July, before it moves to the State Theatre in Sydney between 13 – 22 July.
