The Sydney Lyric Theatre is gearing up to host the very best in theatre and ballet between now and late 2017.

From the stunning beauty of St Petersburg Ballet to unmissable musicals and dance spectacles, the iconic NSW theatre is a hub of exciting talent right now.

Here are six Sydney Lyric Theatre shows you’ll want to put in your diary:

1. St Petersburg Ballet – Swan Lake

One of the most beloved ballets the world over, Swan Lake is the classic love tale between Prince Siegfried and the Swan Princess Odette, whose true love overcomes the divide set upon them by villainous sorcerer, Rothbart. In short, it’s all super lovely. Russia’s critically acclaimed ballet delivers the story in its most stunning format. 19 – 22 December, book tickets

2. St Petersburg Ballet – Nutcracker

The famed St Petersburg Ballet are sticking around for a second production that’s perfect for Christmas; Nutcracker features Tchaikovsky’s lyrical score while bringing to life the magical story of young Clara and her Nutcracker Prince. Christmas storytelling doesn’t come more magical than this. 23 – 24 December, book tickets

3. Ladies In Black

A homegrown musical with all the sass of Priscilla and sentiment of Kinky Boots, Ladies In Black follows a bright-eyed, bookish leading lady whose pasison for education leads to a world of possibilities. Set in 1959 Sydney, her love for learning isn’t straight-forward. This heartwarming adaptation of Madeleine St John’s 1993 novel, The Women In Black, is not to be missed. 3 – 22 January, book tickets.

4. Shen Yun

Coming to Sydney Lyric Theatre as part of its global tour, Shen Yun arrives with an all-new program of around twenty masterful dances and songs which bring Asia’s celebrated past to life on stage witha live orchestra. Combining ancient dance with technological innovations, this is a show unlike any other. 23 March – 2 April, book tickets

5. The Bodyguard

The Bodyguard’s Sydney opening (and Australian premiere) follows its show-stopping success on London’s West End and will star Australian Idol star, Paulini Curuenavuli as lead Rachel Marron – made famous by Whitney Houston in the classic 1992 romantic thriller. Prepare to be totally blown away by this Aussie production. From April 2017, book tickets.

6. Beautiful

Thought you knew Carole King? Think again. Long before she was the Carole King we know and love, the chart-chopping music icon was an ordinary girl with extraordinary talent. Soundtracked by her greatest songs, this musical retells the story of her rise through the difficult record industry via trials of love, career and friendship.  September 2017.
