What’s happening in sport this weekend?

Headlined by the A-League Grand Final, there’s plenty going on across the country this weekend.

Western Australia

We start over in the west, as West Coast Eagles face Melbourne to open Round 9 of the AFL season.

Starting at 6:10pm at Optus Stadium, it will be just the second time each side has been involved in Friday night footy (17 May) this season. The Eagles are seemingly back in form with two on the trot, whilst the Dees may have put their season back on track with two wins on the bounce as well.

With both teams heading into the clash in good form, it sets up an enticing Friday night match-up. Two of the competition’s elite midfields will do battle headlined by Gaff, Yeo and Shuey up against Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney.

Which midfield will win the battle on Friday night?

Heading to Sunday (19 May), we have the Hyundai A-League Grand Final between Perth Glory and Sydney FC.

Who takes out the Championship? Can the Glory keep their remarkable season going and finish it off with a victory, after only three losses for the campaign? Or, will Sydney FC overcome Perth yet again after inflicting two of those three already.

New South Wales

The Down Under Crossfit Championships take place this weekend, held at WIN Stadium in Wollongong from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 May.

You’ll be able to see the best Crossfit athletes from Australia, up against the finest from across the world doing battle across multiple Crossfit events.

There is AFL action on Sunday (19 May) as well with GWS Giants v Carlton at GIANTS Stadium. GWS are looking to break away from the ‘5-3’ pack and cement their current top four position. Whilst the Blues took it right up to Premiership fancies Collingwood last round, only faltering in the final minutes. Can the young Blues side again take it up to one of the best sides in the competition?

Victoria

The footy action continues in the nation’s south, firstly down the highway at GMHBA Stadium as Geelong battle the Western Bulldogs on Saturday (18 May) afternoon. Sitting pretty on top of the table, the Cats will be hard to stop this season, let alone at their fortress.

But the Dogs are coming off two huge wins against top eight sides in a row (Richmond and Brisbane) and will be sure to take it right up to the Cats as they look to edge themselves into the eight.

How good is the Little Master…

On Saturday night (18 May) we head to Marvel Stadium for Essendon v Fremantle. Whilst still inside the top eight, Fremantle will be desperate to reverse their form slump. The Dons will need to do the same themselves, setting up what should be a very tight and even affair.
