There is so much to get excited about this season, with more big-name signings and quality across the league than ever before. There are a whole host of international names still at the peak of their powers, as well as a plethora of quality home-grown talent returning to the league after stints abroad.

Names such as Keisuke Honda (Melbourne Victory), Ola Toivonen (Melbourne Victory), Adam Le Fondre (Sydney FC), Ritchie De Laet (Melbourne City), Siem De Jong (Sydney FC), Steven Taylor (Wellington Phoenix), Patrick Ziegler (Wanderers), and Alexander Baumjohann (Wanderers) will get fans’ hearts racing.

With a heap of experience in the top leagues across the world amongst them, as well as plenty of outings for their nations, the marquee signings across the league provide a mouth-watering thought for the season to come. The quality promises to be stronger than ever.

German Alexander Baumjohann will be looking to impress at the Western Sydney Wanderers

Yet, it’s not just international talent making waves, with a host of huge names in Australian football returning home or switching teams within the league.

Nick Ansell returns to Victory from a spell in Portugal, while Socceroos Ivan Franjic, Jason Davidson and Chris Ikonomidis have all joined the Perth Glory. Names such as Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United), Stefan Mauk (Brisbane Roar), and Adam Taggart (Brisbane Roar) are just the tip of the iceberg of Australian talent in new kits this season. The state of Australian football with the quality of players coming through is stronger than ever and will ensure this A-League campaign is the most entertaining and highest quality yet.

The signing of Socceroo Chris Ikonomidis is a huge coup for Perth Glory

Can the Newcastle Jets bounce back from the heartbreak of last year’s Grand Final and go one better this season? Or, will Melbourne Victory’s plethora of marquee signings steer them towards back-to-back Championships?

Will the addition of Championship winning Manager Tony Popovic alongside a host of signings elevate Perth Glory into contender status? Can the Wanderers bounce back from last year’s campaign with an injection of German talent, both onfield and in the form of new Manager Markus Babbel?

Whatever happens, this season is going to be entertaining, tight, fast-paced, and the highest quality we’ve seen in the league to date.

Round 1 kicks off this weekend, and what better opening than a Melbourne derby on the Saturday night (20 October)?
