The 2018 Sydney Irish Festival will be held over two days this November, from Saturday 10 November to Sunday 11 November.

The inaugural festival is a celebration of everything Irish, blending Irish culture, art, music, dance, food and drink into one amazing event. The festival will culminate on the Sunday in the Wild Geese Trophy, the first full format hurling game played outside of Ireland.

The Wild Geese Trophy is a full-scale competitive hurling game, to be contested by Kilkenny and All Ireland Champions, Galway. Hurling is an ancient Gaelic game played on a field with 15 players per side, with a wooden stick (a Hurley), as players attempt to hit a small ball through the opponents goals (either over the crossbar – 1 point, or under – 3 points). The festival will be held at the Sydney Showground, with the hurling to take place at Spotless Stadium.

The Gaelic Athletic Association have just announced additions to the family entertainment program, with Nick Jr’s PAW Patrol and the Bananas in Pyjamas to headline the Davis Amphitheatre Family Stage on the Saturday.
