Victoria

The footy continues into Round 2, starting with Essendon taking on St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Saturday (30 March – 4.35pm).
The Dons have been heavily criticised since their performance last weekend, but a week is a long time in footy. Can the Bombers leading stars bounce back and grab the four points over a Saints side looking to make it two on the trot to start 2019?

Who needs to step up for the Bombers this week?

We then head to Geelong with the Cats v Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium (30 March – 7.25pm) for our AFL match of the round. Much like Essendon, fans were expecting significantly better from the Dees in Round 1 and they go in with a big point to prove. The Cats, on the other hand, silenced the critics with a thrilling seven-point victory over the Pies in the perfect start to the season.

Can Charlie Constable back up an impressive debut for the Cats?

We’re back at Marvel Stadium on Sunday with North Melbourne v Brisbane Lions (31 March – 1.10pm). The Lions took the footy world by surprise with their Round 1 win over the reigning Premiers. North have a serious point to prove after a disappointing display over in the west last week.

Stepping away from footy for a moment, ice hockey returns to O’Brien Group Arena with the McDonalds HockeyX Pre Season Tournament. The pre-cursor to the upcoming AIHL season pits Melbourne Ice, Melbourne Mustangs, CBR Brave and Queensland All-Stars up against each other this Saturday and Sunday (30 and 31 March), with eight mini games to be played across the two days.

Western Australia

Heading to the other side of the country, the action starts on Friday (29 March) with Western Force up against South China Tigers, starting at 7.40pm at HBF Park. It’s the Force’s second game of 2019, after they defeated the World XV last week.

Western Force were dazzling in the opening game of the Global Rapid Rugby campaign.

The following day (30 March) at Optus Stadium sees West Coast face GWS Giants in a twilight 5.10pm clash. The reigning Premiers didn’t get off to the start they’d hoped for and will be sure to put in a monster display upon return to Perth. The Giants, however, are up and about after a demolition Round 1 win and will be sure to put in a huge contest.

That night at HBF Park sees the table-topping, soaring Perth Glory take on Melbourne Victory in possibly the most mouth-watering clash of the A-League season. With just one loss for the season, Glory are in mesmerising form and up against a strong, third-placed Victory outfit, its set up to be a belter. 7pm kick off. The Glory are attempting to #FillThePark so make sure you head down and support the boys.

Glory’s all-time top scorer Andy Keogh will be out to break the Club record for most goals in a season this weekend.

NSW

We’ve got some Super Rugby action on the agenda in Newcastle this week as the NSW Waratahs battle the Sunwolves at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night (29 March). The Waratahs currently sit on top of the Australian Conference, with Sunwolves on the bottom, so fans will be after a clinical display, starting at 7.45pm.
