McLaren-Honda brighten up Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix

Motorsports fans heading to the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix won’t be able to miss the all-new McLaren-Honda car.

Having just unveiled their new motor for 2017 Formula 1, the new McLaren-Honda motor can’t be missed in new orange, black and white.

The new, bold colour scheme is a stark update from their previous dark grey, thought to be a statement in McLaren’s new era after the departure of former boss, Ron Dennis.

The orange signifies McLaren’s historic original racing colour, while the white is Honda’s corporate branding.

Along with the unveiling, new executive director Zak Brown said the aim was “to get back to winning”.

A ‘shark fin’ engine cover is one of the car’s most eye-catching quirks, along with complex aerodynamic detailing around the nose and front bodywork either side of the cockpit.

These come with various other design updates seen on other cars following the new regulations aimed at making the cars faster, more demanding and substantially more dramatic.

Two-time champion Alonso, who is entering his 16th season, said: “It is an important year for us. It has been a difficult 2015 and 2016 and we have high hopes this year we will come back to where we belong.”

The F1 action pulls into Australia next month on Thursday 23 March at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, Melbourne.
