The 2019 Legends of League tournament will be held at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Saturday 16 November.

The third instalment of the tournament promises to provide a day of “old-school” rugby, celebrating many legends of rugby league. The legends will be taking to the field to raise money for the Mark Hughes Foundation, with $75k in prize money on the line.

90 legends of the NRL will compete in the tournament, forming six teams: Barbarians, Brisbane, Canterbury, Parramatta, Penrith, and Newcastle.

Stars such as Danny Buderus, Wendell Sailor, Andrew Ryan, Mick Crocker, Willie Mason, and Steve Menzies will be competing alongside a host of others.

Mark Hughes Foundation

The Mark Hughes Foundation is the official charity partner of the tournament. The foundation was founded to help combat brain cancer in the Australian community. The foundation assists in raising funds to carry out research in order to decrease mortality rates and minimise the incidence of brain cancer in Australia.

Mark Hughes played for the Newcastle Knights in the NRL from 1997 to 2005 and was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013.
