Footy returns to GMHBA Stadium as the Cats take on Melbourne, Saturday night at 7.25pm.

The clash will be the first of nine in Geelong this season.

The Cats will be hungry after a Friday night thriller saw them scrape through with a win against a heavily fancied Collingwood outfit. Tom Hawkins kicked the winner and his 500th career goal with seven minutes remaining to again break Pies fans hearts.

Both sides went in even after the final break, with the Pies kicking 2.1 and Geelong 3.2 in the final term to run out seven-point winners in the low scoring affair.

Tim Kelly was prolific as usual, and the off-season trade issues don’t seem to have affected his on-field performance, strapping in for another big year.

The Cats sent out five debutants including off-season trade acquisitions Luke Dahlhaus and Gary Rohan. Rohan finished with ten touches, while Dahlhaus shone with 24 disposals and an equal-game high six tackles.

Of their young debutants, Tom Atkins managed nine possessions, with an impressive five tackles. Jordan Clark managed 17 with 14 kicks, Gryan Miers had 11, while Charlie Constable was the pick of the bunch with 21 disposals and a goal.

The Cats take on a disappointing Melbourne outfit this weekend, hungry for redemption after a poor Round 1 showing against Port Adelaide.

A win would see Geelong knocking off two of the most fancied Premiership contenders in the perfect start to their 2019 campaign.
