We've renamed this month 'Football February', and to celebrate there is plenty happening around the country.
The time has almost come. 2018 FA Cup Champions, and English football heavyweights, Chelsea FC will be arriving down under very shortly. They will take on local A-League side Perth Glory at Optus Stadium on Monday 23 July.
As the World Cup draws to a close, with only four nations remaining, the country is in peak football fever.
This is the chance for Australians to witness some of the world’s very best right in front of their eyes, with plenty of Chelsea’s stars set to arrive as they kick of their pre-season.
Chelsea will be looking to get their preseason campaign off to a good start, after a disappointing 2017/18 Premier League campaign by their lofty standards. Despite this, Chelsea still took home the FA Cup in 2018 and will be sure to show off their recent silverware acquisition in Australia.
As the players returned to preseason training this week, they spoke to the club about just how excited they are to be visiting Australia.
David Luiz speaks to Chelsea TV about returning to preseason training, and the trip to Australia.
Spanish wing-back Marcos Alonso spoke about his excitement to venture down under, “It’s always exciting to play in new places and I hope we get to see what the city has to offer.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to see our fans from the other side of the world. We feel their support throughout the year but we know they can’t always see us play.”
English midfielder Danny Drinkwater also spoke about how he was looking forward to the clash, and especially playing in a packed Optus Stadium, “It should be a good trip. I’ve never been to Australia before and I’m excited to see it having heard so much about it over the years.
“The stadium looks fantastic and it’s always nice to go and play in front of your fans from all over the world. Chelsea is a massive club all over the world and I can’t wait to experience that.”
Fans also have the chance to meet the Chelsea players, with everyone purchasing tickets to the clash going into the draw to win the ultimate Chelsea fan experience^. The prize includes:
