Chelsea FC announce squad and arrive in Perth
Chelsea FC have touched down in Australia, bringing with them a star-studded 25-man squad.
2018 FA Cup Champions Chelsea FC have landed down under, stacked with a team of world-class talent.
While World Cup Champions Olivier Giroud and N’Golo Kante weren’t on the plane, after recently winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia with France, there was no shortage of Chelsea stars touching down in Australia.
New Manager Maurizio Sarri will be taking charge of his first match as Chelsea coach right here in Perth, accompanied by Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola, who has been recently appointed Assistant Manager. New signing Jorginho will run out for the first time in Chelsea colours against Perth Glory also, after signing for the Premier League powerhouse from Napoli only days ago.
The remainder of the 25-man squad in Perth includes World Cup Champions with Spain Cesc Fabregas and Pedro, 2018 PFA left-back of the season Marcos Alonso, enigmatic Premier League Champion David Luiz and star Spanish striker Alvaro Morata. The squad also includes last year’s wing-back signings Davide Zappacosta and Emerson Palmieri, as well as English central midfielders Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and Frenchman Tiemoue Bakayoko. Chelsea players touch down in Perth
Perth Glory aren’t without stars of their own for the clash, with Australian coaching royalty Tony Popovic also taking charge of his first game for his new club, alongside several big name signings. Caltex Socceroo Matthew Spiranovic joins the Glory at the heart of defence, alongside ex-Wanderer Brendon Santalab in attack. The Glory have also recently signed former Socceroos Jason Davidson and Ivan Franjic, further bolstering what looks to be a very strong side for the 2018/19 A-League campaign.
