This year welcomes the ninth edition of the Big Bash League, and if last season is anything to go by, this summer is set to be a hot one.

Is there any better way to enjoy the gorgeous summer sun and beautiful balmy nights than at the cricket? We think not, so we’ve pulled together a handy guide to prepare you before Big Bash tickets go on sale.

No matter who you follow – Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, or Sydney Thunder – it’s sure to be a season of superb sizes, big hits, spectacular catches, and an electric atmosphere unlike anything else you’ll experience. The 2019/20 Big Bash season will be shorter than last summer – reducing from 54 days to 42. But that doesn’t mean there is any less action on the cards.

BBL 08 saw Melbourne Renegades come out on top, stealing their first-ever Big Bash League title from crosstown rivals the Stars. While it was a disappointing finish for the Stars, their improvement from BBL 07 – where they finished last on the ladder – sets them up to go one better this time around. Last year’s other finalists Sydney Sixers and minor premiers Hobart Hurricanes will also both be hoping to round out the season with the trophy in their hands. Don’t count out Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder, BBL 07 champions Adelaide Strikers, or bottom of the table Perth Scorchers.

Renegades

There is set to be a huge shakeup come finals time. For the first time in Big Bash League history, a final-five will be in place for the 2019/20 tournament. That means, in addition to the 56 home and away games in the regular season there will be five finals, with the decider locked in for Saturday 8 February. The new system means that the top two teams get a double-chance, ensuring first and second on the ladder have to best chance of making it through. The new format will also give fifth place a chance to reach the big dance – if they can win four consecutive finals.

As an added bonus, the finals will be spread across two weeks, with every final set to be played at night.

Alongside all the fast-paced action on the field, expect the three-hours of non-stop action you’ve come to love from a Big Bash night out. Great music, breathtaking fireworks, and unique boundary performances from each BBL club come together to create a hugely entertaining experience.
