Headliners

Some of the biggest names in international golf are converging on RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast – and they’re all vying for the Kirkwood Cup.

Andrew ‘Beef Johnston

English golfer Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston is set to make his Australian PGA Championship debut at this year’s event. Since winning twice on the Challenge Tour in 2014, Johnston has been a regular fixture on the European Tour and broke through for a win on the circuit in 2016 at the Real Club Valderrama Open de España. This year, he’s recorded three top-10 results, including a runner-up finish at Hero Indian Open. Could the Australian PGA finally see him cap of 2018 with a win?

Marc Leishman

The four-time PGA Tour winner is missing an Australian PGA Championship, and he is ready to rectify that this December. Recently coming off his victory in the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, Leishman has that winning feeling – but can he continue it? The reigning Greg Norman Medal winner was tied for fourth last year but has not won in Australia since claiming the 2008 Victorian PGA Championship, a decade-long drought he’ll be desperate to break.

Cameron Smith

Having started the year ranked 61 in the world, Smith has climbed up to be 32nd and in prime position to become Australian golf’s new No.1. He’s had a big year so far, recording four top-five finishes on the PGA Tour in 2018, now he’s got his eyes on the Australian PGA Championship – a title he is looking to defend this year. Can he build on his 2018 and go back to back Kirkwood Cups?

Fan Zone

Built on the 16th hole, the Oakley Gold Coast Beach Club brings a unique new experience to professional golf which will have fans sunbaking and cooling off in the water all while watching the golfers in action. Inspired by the iconic beaches of Queensland, the Oakley Gold Coast Beach Club is bringing the beach to the greens. To gain access, fans will have to win their way in. Head here for more info.

The Course

RACV Royal Pines Resort has three 18-hole combination golf courses, including the Graham Marsh re-designed Championship course which will host the Australian PGA Championship. Made up of the Green and Gold nines, the championship course has tight fairways, undulating greens and immaculately manicured swales, with each nine having its own distinctive challenges.

From the championship tees, it measures 6,690 metres, with six par 4s that measure more than 400 metres, four par 5s that are over 500 metres long and a 201-metre par 3. It all adds up to a tough series of holes when you factor in the parade of bunkers that come into play on most holes.

Soniq Million Dollar Hole

The par-3 16th hole at RACV Royal Pines Resort will be the most eagerly anticipated golf hole this summer. Back once again, on Sunday 2 December, the Million Dollar Hole gives you the chance to win $500,000 in cash and prizes. If you’re lucky, you’ll be partnered up with one of the players in the 2018 Australian PGA Championship. If you’re even luckier, your player will be the first to make a hole in one – they’ll win $500,00, and so will you.

The Australian PGA Championship will come to RACV Royal Pines Resort from Thursday November 29 until Sunday December 2. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.com.au.
