BBL|09: Where we sit

The Big Bash is more than halfway through now, so who will take out the 2019/20 campaign.

See available tickets

With BBL|09 past the halfway point, we dive in to have a look at who the contenders are, and the best games remaining this season.

Current BBL State of play

The Melbourne Stars are flying on top of the table, with only one loss so far.

Below that it is quite tight, with six teams fighting for one of the remaining top five spots.

The Sixers, Scorchers, Strikers, Thunder and Heat would all fancy their chances, with the Hurricanes and Renegades rounding out the tail of the table after disappointing campaigns.

Our top games in the coming weeks

Scorchers v Stars – Wednesday 15 January

It’s first v third at the amazing Optus Stadium, with Perth Scorchers going head to head with the Melbourne Stars.

Both sides are in a hot run of form, with the Scorchers winning their past three and the Stars their past six.

The Scorchers themselves have scored nearly 150 runs more than the next closest side, showcasing the heavy-hitting power that Perth possess, headlined by captain Mitch Marsh.

Marsh sits second on the top-scoring table, with a face-off against number one Marcus Stoinis adding just another layer to this mouth-watering contest.

The clash begins at 9.10pm (AWST) this Wednesday 15 January, with tickets available here.

Thunder v Sixers – Saturday 18 January

It’s the Thunder’s final game of the season, held at Sydney Showground Stadium.

An enticing clash with both sides right in Finals contention, the Scorchers sitting third and Thunder fifth at present.

Daniel Sams is the player to watch from the Thunder, with the former Sydney Sixers fast bowler leading the league in wickets taken this season.

With a top-five spot on the line, this game could well shape whether the Thunder return for another week or not.

Tickets to the game are available here.

Scorchers v Strikers – Friday 24 January

2019/20 has seen a massive resurgence from both sides.

After finishing in the bottom two last season, the clash will see third face fourth (as we currently sit), as both desperately chase a top-five berth to ultimately upset the Stars’ campaign.

The match will be both sides’ second last of the campaign before the Finals kick in, setting up what could be a make or break encounter.

Tickets are available here.
