The 2020 ATP Cup Finals are here
The top eight are confirmed and ready to go in Sydney.
After six massive days across Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, the 2020 ATP Cup Group Stages are over.
The Quarter Finals begin today, with the top eight nations heading to Sydney.
Great Britain v Australia – Thursday 9 January 10am (AEDT)
Finishing top of their group with a 2-1 tie win, Daniel Evans and Cameron Norrie have managed to get the job done thus far.
The Brits have knocked off Belgium and Moldova already, despite falling to Bulgaria in their first clash.
Australia, however, are the form team of the tournament. Not only sitting at 3-0 knocking off several big names from Germany, Canada and Greece, the Aussies are also 9-0 in matches won.
It will be an extremely difficult task for Great Britain to overcome the might of Nick Kyrgios and Alex De Minaur, with Kyrgios already breezing past Norrie early this morning in a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win.
De Minaur and Evans are currently on court.
Our prediction: Australia should progress here.
Argentina v Russia – Thursday 9 January 5.30pm (AEDT)
Quarter Final 2 sees Russia, led by world number five Daniil Medvedev, take on Argentina and Diego Schwartzman.
Russia cruised through their group, only dropping one match of the eight, and dispatching of Italy, Norway and USA with a 3-0 tie victory.
Argentina progressed on top also, despite falling to Austria. They have defeated both Croatia and Poland on their way.
See the two countries face off this Thursday 9 January, beginning at 5.30pm (AEDT) on Ken Rosewall Arena.
Our prediction: Schwartzman has only won once so far and will find it difficult to overcome Medvedev. The early game Karen Khachanov (number 17) and Guido Pella (number 20) will be a tense and tight affair and could shape the tie.
Both Khachanov and Medvedev are undefeated, so Russia should get the job done.
Serbia v Canada – Friday 10 January 10am (AEDT)
The world number two Novak Djokovic’s Serbia took out Group A 3-0, taking care of South Africa, Chile and France.
Canada fell to Australia in Group F but managed to progress as one of the top second-placed teams. Felix Auger-Aliassime will face Dusan Lajovic, while Denis Shapovalov will get the job against Djokovic.
Our prediction: Auger-Aliassime has found the going tough so far with only one win, and it is a tough ask for Shapovalov to knock off someone of Djokovic’s calibre. Serbia should get over the line.
The Serbians have loved playing in Australia.
Belgium v Spain – Friday 10 January 5.30pm
Rafa Nadal (world number one) and Roberto Bautista Agut, both top ten players, have been unstoppable throughout the tournament.
They will face world number seven David Goffin and Steve Darcis.
With a 3-0 tie record, and no matches dropped at 9-0, Spain have looked invincible. Belgium progressed as one of the top two second-placed teams, having lost previously to group-toppers Great Britain.
Our prediction: We can’t see anything more than a clinical display from two of the best in the world ensuring Spain keep their streak going.
