Sky is the limit at the Airshow

All eyes will be looking skyward this weekend as the Australian International Airshow flies into town.

The Airshow, which is held biennially at Avalon, is the largest celebration of aviation in the Southern Hemisphere. This year’s Airshow – the twelfth to be held at Avalon – will be open to the public from February 27 until March 1.

The 2015 Airshow will be particularly special as it will pay tribute to the ANZAC and military heroes who represented Australia at Gallipoli and in the 100 years since. The Airshow has been titled Heroes of the Sky: Centenary of ANZAC 1915-2015 and will commemorate and remember the heroes of today and years past. Their bravery and gallantry will be commemorated through ground exhibits and flying displays.

The Airshow is a fantastic event for the entire family and is always a favourite with children and adults alike. The Airshow features amazing aviation exhibits, mind-blowing air displays and military and defence demonstrations as well as museums, battle re-enactments and food stalls.

As well as the amazing action in the sky, there is just as much to see and do on the ground. There Airshow has a huge number of aircraft that are on display so you can get up close and have a good look.

But it is not just aircraft that are on display. The Airshow also features classic car displays, tractors, military vehicles and jet vehicles. There is something to keep every rev-head happy!

But of course, the best action is high in the sky. The flying displays include the majestic Roulettes that dance in perfect synchronicity, fighter jets that make a noise like you’ve never heard, vintage and WWI aircraft, military aircraft as well as helicopters and sea hawks. But that barely scratches the surface of the amazing aerobatics, fly overs and handling demonstrations that will be seen. There will even be parachutists and fireworks displays.

As well as Australian military aircraft, many international air forces have been invited to take part in the Airshow demonstrations. The US Air Force will be in attendance with many amazing aircraft including a static display of its F-22 Raptor as well as the KC-135R Stratotanker and RQ4 Global Hawk. Other nations participating include Singapore, New Zealand, Japan and France.

On Friday night the sky will be illuminated with Night Alight – a breathtaking display that takes place after dark and features a fiery and explosive finale!

The Airshow is excellent value with prices remaining unchanged from the 2013 event. There are big savings for families and group bookings and patrons can select from general admission tickets or a Gold Pass that includes a reserved grandstand seat.

Travelling to and from the Airshow is a breeze with ample car parking and extra train services that will shuttle visitors from Southern Cross and Geelong train stations to Lara train station where shuttle buses are waiting to take you straight to the Airshow site.
