Sam Fender – Leave Fast

Look, we know technically this song was released back in June, but since the EP it lives on – titled Dead Boys and is well worth spending 20 minutes with – dropped last Friday how could we not include this beauty. We are certain you’re going to be hearing a lot from and about Sam Fender in 2019, so now is the perfect time to get acquainted. Arriving at the tail-end of this six-tracker, Leave Fast proves you truly don’t need anything more than a guitar, a voice, and some beautiful lyrics to tug at the heartstrings. This one is different to everything else you’ll hear from Sam, but is a worthy entry point. One of the best tracks of 2018. Lucky for all of us he’ll be here for Falls Festival this December – tickets and info here.

Tired Lion – With Or Without

On their latest single, Perth rockers Tired Lion are blasting into a new era. Inspired by the departure of their founding guitarist Matt Tanner, With Or Without is Tired Lion’s first new music since releasing their 2017 debut album Dumb Days and in their signature grunge-but-with-pop-hooks style, the band reflect on their life following the turbulence of the last 12 months and showcases a band who have come out on top. They might have been uncertain about their future, but one thing’s for sure, Tired Lion aren’t going anywhere.

Handsome – WILDS

WILDS is a gorgeous slow-burner from Sydney-based artist Caitlin Park. It’s the warm, comforting closer from her recently released EP, No Hat No Play and is a song dedicated to the obsession you feel when you’re in love. In her own words, “When you’re tunnel vision is a daily feature and you study your person, with vigour, every single morning when you’re awake and they are still sleeping. You feel comfort, but you also feel anxious that in the blink of an eye they will leave.”

Billie Eilish- Come Out and Play

Softly rolling along like the most delicate of lullabies, Billie Eilish’s latest single Come Out and Play continues to showcase how exceptionally brilliant she is. Gentle guitar and textured percussion leave Billie’s voice to truly guide the track, and she does so magnificently. When she finally releases her debut album, there will be nothing stopping Billie Eilish from becoming one of the biggest artists in the world.

Lupa J – You’re In My Headphones

It has been a gorgeous ride watching Lupa J grow and change over the years, and on You’re In My Headphones she has truly hit her stride. Effortless vocals layer over shimmering synths and fun electro-pop beats to create a truly infectious three-minute ride. With her debut album Swallow Me Whole ready to be unveiled real soon, we can’t wait to watch Lupa J’s star explode.

Clea – Dreaming

If lush, dreamy pop is your cup of tea, then Clea’s debut album Vermillion is the perfect treat. Our top pick from the record has to be Dreaming – it’s unique and catchy, and will be swirling around your mind in no time.

Winston Surfshirt – For The Record

There aren’t many things much smoother than a Winston Surfshirt tune, and with their latest track For The Record they are serving up another sweet, sweet dose. Right in time for the summer warmth, Winston have dropped another sun-soaked, jazz-infused moment that picks up exactly where their debut Sponge Cake left off. That place just so happens to be exactly where we’ve been waiting.

Missy Higgins + Ben Abraham – Run So Fast

Alongside her greatest hits compilation, Missy Higgins has gifted us with a beautiful new single Run So Fast. If you’ve seen Missy perform live over the years, you’ll probably recognise this song as a favourite in her sets, though one she has never recorded in the studio – until now. Here she has teamed up with Melbourne singer-songwriter Ben Abraham – and their vocal harmonies are truly stunning. The track is a simple affair, carried by nothing more than an acoustic guitar, but when you have a voice as glorious as Missy Higgins, you don’t even need that.

Antony & Cleopatra – Hard Feelings

AU/UK duo Antony & Cleopatra have given us one of the bounciest EPs this year in Hurt Like Hell. Choice cut Hard Feelings is a prime example. It’s about being a relationship with someone who is stringing you along, and feeling empowered by fronting up to the truth. If you need something new to get you dancing, look no further.

Billy Davis ft VanJess & Matt McGhee – Shoulda Known

Billy Davis is a music-making genius, that he has proved over and over again. Featuring guest spots from American R&B sister duo VanJess and Matt McGhee, and combining an R&B bounce with silky neo-soul and rap, here we see Billy Davis at his energetic, genre-bending best.
