Ticketmaster New Music is your one-stop destination to discover the best emerging live acts before they explode. These are the artists we’re expecting to make waves in the live music scene, and we want you to know about them first.

Brisbane-born, London-based singer-songwriter Eves Karydas – formerly known as Eves The Behaviour – is taking the Australian pop scene by storm. Through her blend of daring indie-pop hooks, soaring melodies, and punchy radio-friendly production she is well on her way to global pop star status.

And rightly so. Her stunning debut album, summerskin – released late 2018 – showcases a confidence and honesty that’s been building in Karydas since she burst onto the scene in 2014 under her former moniker. Here, her voice is stronger, her writing more meaningful, and her empowering message packs an even greater punch.

Eves Karydas brings together everything we look for in excellent pop music, and after realigning herself in her new London home, her rapid rise is only set to continue. The stratosphere is the limit for Eves Karydas, so it’s the perfect time for introductions.

The Story

From the beginning

“I wrote my first song at ten years old. It was acapella and very much spurred on by being bored of singing along to the CDs I had in my room. Our household was musical, and I have lots of memories of sitting at the kitchen table with my dad teaching me how to harmonize.”

What you’ll hear

“I’d say my sound stems from my songwriting style – which is pop, heartfelt, and very much about telling stories. I always leave room in production for my lyrics to be at the forefront, so the production is fairly sparse with a good balance of electronic and organic elements. I’ve been writing songs for so long now that I can’t quite pinpoint when my style developed into what it is.”

Influences & inspiration

“At the moment the biggest thing inspiring me are stories from my friends and things that I have personally been through as someone in their early / mid-twenties. Everything they say about this rollercoaster of a decade is true.”

For the love of music

“Music allows me to sort through emotions I can’t get past and process on a regular day. That’s my favourite thing about creativity and the main reason I’ve been doing it for so long.”

Kicking goals

“Releasing my debut album was a huge moment. I spent a long time making it in London and to come back home and release it in Australia to such a wonderful response was really really special.”

The hard yards

“I was living in London for three years, and trying to find a balance between that life and my life back home was very challenging for me both personally and professionally. I had a strong support system around me in Australia, but I really wanted to go overseas in order to grow – but it wasn’t easy.”

The year ahead

“I’m starting 2019 off with my summerskin album tour and then slowly starting work on my second album. I’d like to have new music out later this year.”

Essential Listening

Eves Karydas – Further Than The Planes Fly

“I wrote parts of the chorus melody backwards. It’s probably the most experimental method I’ve ever taken with songwriting but it paid off.”

Eves Karydas – Wildest Ones

“This was the last song I wrote for summerskin. In the first verse I mention meeting at a bar at midnight and that is a reference to a blues bar on Kingly St in Soho.”

Eves Karydas – Damn Loyal

“I wrote this song jet-lagged out of my brain one morning in January in London. It was freezing cold and dark outside, but I bundled up and went for a walk. I came back with the melody in my head and wrote the rest of the song that day.”
