Falls Festival cancels 2020/21 event

Got plans for New Year's? Cancel them, because Falls Fest are gearing up to announce one heck of an All-Australian treat!

**UPDATE: In a social media post, Falls Festival have announced that their 2020/21 event will no longer go ahead. Read their statement below:

There is one thing we can be certain of, Falls Festival will be back this summer.

“As Australia heads towards the recovery phase of COVID-19 we have decided to move forward with optimism, and work towards presenting our Dec 2020/Jan 2021 event in a way that will best bolster Australia’s live music industry,” organisers Jess and Paul said in a letter to fans.

The annual festival has announced a special edition for this New Years, pulling together an all-Australian lineup for stops in Lorne, Byron Bay, Marion Bay, and Fremantle.

“We have some of the most exciting acts in the world and this special “homegrown” edition of Falls will ensure that money stays in our local economy, providing maximum financial benefit for the Australian music community – artists, management, crew, agents, roadies, production etc – as well as the thousands of contractors and suppliers who rely on our events for their income,” they said.

“Falls Festival will also raise funds for Support Act which provides essential services to our music industry workers. Support Act has been inundated with requests recently from workers who have been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.”

We don’t have any news on when a lineup might drop but keep your eyes locked here for updates as they arrive.

Of course, the internet has heated up with rumours (including what could be some very very exciting reunions) so, if anything, Falls Festival is currently providing some very necessary water cooler chats.

More to come soon.

If this year’s Falls Festival lineup wasn’t already ridiculous enough, they’ve gone and added a stack more bands to the lineup. New Year’s plans are well and truly sorted.

Update: Falls Festival 2019/2020 announce third lineup and add a stack of incredible local talent to your New Year’s festivities

Down in Tassie’s Marion Bay you’ll be blessed with the presence of Melbourne singer-songwriter Alex Lahey, sister act Kinder, international DJ Dena Amy, Brisbane pop-punks Bugs and lyrical onslaught Wombat.

Surf rock pals Goons of Doom are set to supercharge Falls in Byron Bay, rolling in with their mates Mini Skirt and Israeli Chicks who will bring a blast of guitar-based fun.

Not to be forgotten are our friends in Fremantle, where neo-soul locals Butter, synth mates Gazey and up and comers Jack Davies and the Bush Chooks will bring the charm Downtown.

Update: Falls Festival 2019/2020 expand lineup

Heading right around the country and hitting every Falls Festival stop along the way is Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti alongside Aussie rockers Bad//Dreems, the incredible Montaigne, shredders Holy Holy, and DJ/producer Wave Racer. With a stack of top-notch new music flowing out of this group (including a couple of our albums of the year), Falls Festival just got a whole lot bigger.

But wait – there is more. B Wise is in, as are A Swayze and The Ghost, Adrian Eagle, and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers. Four artists who have all been applauded for the calibre of their live shows.

Montaigne - READY (Official)

Each stop is also getting their own personalised injection of musical goodies too. Which could really end up being the deciding factor for where you end up when the clock strikes midnight and 2019 becomes 2020.

In Byron Bay, Tash Sultana will throw down their hazy, sun-soaked guitar mastery alongside Thundamentals, Cosmo’s Midnight and Concrete Surfers.

Over in Lorne, we already know party started What So Not is throwing down a much-hyped exclusive set, but now we also know he’ll be accompanied by indie-pop darlings The Jungle Giants, groovy boys Lime Cordiale and the happiest dude in Aussie hip hop Kwame.

Marion Bay is sure to go off, with huge additions including Illy, local heroes Luca Brasi and Kat Edwards, who will be joining Aus rock’s cool dads Wolfmother.

And finally in Fremantle –where the New Year ticks over a little later than the rest of the Falls Festival stops – Lime Cordiale will head across the country to jump back on the Falls stage, with Sampa The Great and Sly Withers also joining in on the port-side New Year celebrations.

So there you go – now it’s really time to decide where you’re headed when New Year’s rolls around. Big decisions will be made, but quality music times await wherever you land.

Sampa The Great - OMG (Official Video)
