A brand new Irish festival is set to take over Sydney Showground next summer.

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and Paul Sergeant Events (PSE) made the announcement today, revealing plans for the inaugural Sydney Irish Festival 2018.

The weekend-long celebration will take place on 10 and 11 November 2018 at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.

Sydney Irish Festival will bring the best of Irish arts, culture, music, dance, food and drink to Sydney, along with a competitive Hurling match.

Two championship-winning Hurling teams will challenge for the 2018 Wild Geese Trophy at the festival, marking the first time a full format Hurling game has been played outside Ireland.

The Wild Geese Trophy will be a fully-sanctioned, competitive game contested by reigning All Ireland champions Galway and the winner of the 2018 National Hurling League.
