For decades, children (and adults!) have been mesmerised by the amazing works of Disney films and productions. A hallmark of these wonderful films are the accompanying soundtracks that are full of original tracks that are fun, playful, inspiring and uplifting.

Some of the songs from Disney films have even become massive worldwide hits – most notably Frozen’s Let It Go, A Whole New World from Aladdin, Zip-a-Dee Doo-Dah from the 1946 film Song of the South and Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King.

The songs of Disney are almost as memorable as the stories themselves. And to celebrate the beautiful music of Disney, we have posted 10 of our favourite songs below. We hope you enjoy them!

Frozen – Let It Go

Let It Go is an unmistakable hit all over the world! The tune was written by husband and wife duo, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and was performed in the film, Frozen, by Idina Menzel, who played the vocal role of Queen Elsa. The song was also altered for Demi Lovato who released it as a pop track. The song is haunting and emotional and has powerful vocals. It is a bona fide Disney hit and one of our favourites.

The Lion King – Can You Feel the Love Tonight

The Lion King was a massive hit in 1994 and the success of the accompanying soundtrack by Elton John and Tim Rice was just as huge! Can You Feel the Love Tonight was awarded the 1995 Academy Award for Best Original Song despite its stiff competition; it was up against two other songs from The Lion King – Hakuna Matata and Circle of Life. We love this song and we are pretty sure you do too…

Beauty and the Beast – Beauty and the Beast

In the animated film of the same name, Beauty and the Beast is performed by Angela Lansbury, who performs the vocal role of Mrs Potts. The song, written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, was also released as a pop duet by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson and was very warmly received. This beautiful ballad is definitely one of Disney’s finest.

The Little Mermaid – Under the Sea

This is another Academy Award-winning song from Disney. Under the Sea is a fun and engaging song in calypso/Carribean style that originated in Trinidad and Tobago. Featured in The Little Mermaid, the song is performed by Ariel’s friend and servant, Sebastian. The track is designed as a plea to keep Ariel sea bound – but we all know how that turns out! It’s a lot of fun, we hope you enjoy it.

Aladdin – A Whole New World

A Whole New World was written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice and appeared in the 1992 film, Aladdin. The song is a duet ballad featuring Aladdin and Jasmine and the scene in the film depicts the pair on a magic carpet ride around Agrabah. The track was awarded the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 65th Academy Awards in 1992.

Cinderella – Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, also known as The Magic Song, was written by Al Hoffman, Mack David and Jerry Livingston and featured in the 1950 film, Cinderella. The song was performed by Verna Felton who provided the vocals for The Fairy Godmother in the film. It is short and sweet but one of Disney’s most memorable classics.

Snow White – Some Day My Prince Will Come

Larry Morey and Frank Churchill composed Some Day My Prince Will Come for the 1937 animated Disney film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Adriana Caselotti, who provided the voice of Snow White in the film, performed the romantic tune.

The Jungle Book – I Wan’na Be Like You

I Wan’na Be Like You was written by Robert and Richard Sherman for The Jungle Book, Disney’s 1967 animated film. The song expertly fuses jazz and Dixie music and features a great scat between Baloo and King Louie. This song is loads of fun, we are sure you will love it.

Mary Poppins – Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was written by the Sherman Brothers and was performed by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in the 1964 Disney classic, Mary Poppins. While the word is long and sounds quite atrocious, the song is a complete hoot and features the amazing comic stylings of Van Dyke.

Sleeping Beauty – An Unusual Prince/Once Upon A Dream

Once Upon A Dream was based on Tchaikovsky’s ballet Sleeping Beauty, specifically the piece Grande valse villageoise, or The Garland Waltz. The song was recently covered by Lana Del Ray for the dark fantasy Disney film, Maleficent, which was released in 2014.
