Sports Galore at nib Stadium

It is already known for hosting amazing sporting events, but Perth’s nib Stadium is set to take its reputation to a new level hosting its first ever Rugby League international in 2016.

nib Stadium was recently announced as the venue for a massive Test match between Australia and New Zealand on October 15.

The event – which brings together two of world Rugby League’s most fearsome rivals – will be a very important lead in to the Four Nations Tournament, which will be held in the UK later in the year.

The Australian Kangaroos are generally accepted as the masters of Rugby League on the world stage. Having won the World Cup on 10 occasions, the Kangaroos are the most successful side in the world. Coached by League legend Mal Meninga, the Aussie side will incorporate the best players in the NRL, including many of the State of Origin champions.

But the Kiwis are fierce competitors. Led by Stephen Kearney, New Zealand will be keen to test themselves against the Aussie ahead of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, which will be held throughout New Zealand and Australia.

The popularity of Rugby League is prolific in the eastern states, but the decision to take a world-class event to Perth is proof that the game is growing rapidly in the west.

On top of the Test match, nib Stadium will also play host to two NRL matches during the 2016 Premiership season.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the Gold Coast Titans in Round 13 at nib Stadium before a Round 19 clash between the Manly Sea Eagles and cross-Tasman team, the New Zealand Warriors.

South Sydney and Manly are two of the NRL’s biggest clubs. Both have enjoyed immense success over the past few years with the Rabbitohs claiming the NRL Premiership in 2014 and Manly taking the title in 2011 and 2008.

In great news for Western Australian sports fans, all three of the Rugby League matches at nib Stadium in 2016 represent great competitiveness and will certainly exhibit world-class ability.

But before nib Stadium patrons sink their teeth into Rugby League, they will be cheering on their local A-League side, Perth Glory.

The side is battling to make finals and will play four further home matches at nib Stadium against some of the powerhouse sides of the competition, most notably top-of-the-ladder Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City.

But the ball sports don’t stop there for nib Stadium. Western Force, Perth’s Rugby side, will play seven matches at the venue throughout 2016.

And from ball sports to two wheels, Nitro Circus will light up nib Stadium on May 7, with a brilliant high-octane event that will have the whole family entertained.
