It's time to wake Maggie up, Rod Stewart is on his way...
Two years after he last graced our stages, British singer and songwriter James Blunt has announced his return to Australia in November 2020.
As an added bonus he is bringing along his mate Jason Mraz, because two shots at huge singalongs is way better than one.
The tour follows the release of Blunt’s sixth album Once Upon A Mind. Arriving last month, the record features all the classic Blunt elements that have continued our love affair for almost two decades. Six albums of heart-on-your-sleeve tunes deep and Once Upon A Mind might just be his more personal record yet. So do prepare for all the feels when he brings his new songs to Australian stages for the first time.
We can’t believe it’s been 15 years since we first met Blunt thanks to his 2004 debut album Back To Bedlam which gave us one of the best singalongs ever in single ‘You’re Beautiful’. From there, his mantle has continued to fill, with millions of albums sold worldwide and multiple nominations for Grammy Awards, BRIT Awards and more.
“I’m back where I started,” Blunt says of his new album. “Writing songs for me and the people around me. And I’m free again.” He made that nod pretty clear when he released the video for new album single ‘Cold’, the Welsh countryside location throwing back to the iconic music video for ‘You’re Beautiful’.
Joining Blunt at every show of his Australian tour is Grammy Award winner Jason Mraz. The pair have toured together across the US, Canada, the UK, and Ireland over the last 15 years, and their reunion Down Under will see Mraz on our shores for the first time in six years. His soulful, folk-pop sound is best incapsulated in hits like ‘I’m Yours’ and ‘I Won’t Give Up’ – and while we are very excited to relive these songs all over again, the news that Mraz is currently working on new music set for release next year is the icing on the cake.
Completing the lineup is Melbourne electro-pop wonder Olympia. She recently followed up her 2016 debut album, Self Talk (which earned her a finalist spot in the Australian Music Prize for Album of the Year and a nomination for Breakthrough Artist at the ARIA Awards by the way) with her latest album Flamingo and if you haven’t experienced the joy of watching Olympia perform live yet, this is the perfect opportunity.
James Blunt and Jason Mraz will tour Australia in November 2020. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au.
