Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer announce huge 2020 Australian tour

Hella mega good!

See available tickets

We’d never really bought into the whole “good things come in threes” until Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Weezer let us know they’d be teaming up for a huge stadium tour around Australia this November.

Bringing together almost 80 years of touring experience, 34 albums, and more accolades and awards than most people can fit in their houses – the Hella Mega Tour is well and truly ready to live up to its name.

The tour comes in support of Green Day’s freshly released album Father Of All… which the five-time Grammy Award winners have just dropped today.

Their tour partners Fall Out Boy and Weezer have been keeping themselves busy too. Last November, Fall Out Boy released the second instalment of their greatest hits compilation Believers Never Die, while Weezer are preparing to drop album number 14 Van Weezer in May.

Green Day - Oh Yeah! [Official Music Video]

It’s a big day in camp Green Day with their thirteenth studio album Father Of All… landing today, following on from their chart-topping 2016 release Revolution Radio.

Green Day had just one plan when they headed into the studio, “Let’s make a mess,” and on what is quite possibly their most surprising release yet, they have done just that. It’s the shortest release of their career to date, clocking in at just 26 minutes, but it also sees the veterans trying on more musical ideas and genres than ever before. It’s fast-paced, explosive, and full of attitude proving that even after 34 years Green Day are still as creative and unpredictable as ever.

They’ve come a long way since their pioneering breakout album Dookie landed in 1994. Containing singles like ‘Longview’, ‘Basket Case’, ‘Welcome to Paradise’, ‘When I Come Around’ and ‘She’, the album was a critical and commercial smash – ushering Green Day on to the world stage, and in 1995 earning the band their first Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album.

Since then they’ve stacked their discography with bonafide smash hits. When they land in Australia later this year, alongside a slew of new album tracks we’re sure to hear singles like ‘American Idiot’, ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’, ‘Know Your Enemy’, ‘Holiday’, ’21 Guns’, ‘Minority’, and ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ in all their live glory.

Known for their mammoth setlists, on their last visit to our shores in 2017 they smashed out a massive 25-song setlist, their visit before that for Soundwave 2014 (and the 20-year anniversary of Dookie) stretched for more than three hours.

What are we in for in 2020? We’ll have to wait and see.

Fall Out Boy - Bob Dylan (Official Video)

Can we call Fall Out Boy pop-punk veterans yet? While they are almost ready to head into their second decade, in their present company they almost seem like new kids on the block. But they have well and truly paid their dues, and on their latest release, and second greatest hits compilation, FOB prove just how strong their back catalogue is.

Arriving a decade after the first, Believers Never Die: Volume Two features tracks from their three most recent albums – Save Rock and Roll (2013), American Beauty/American Psycho (2015), and MANIA (2018) as well as two new singles ‘Dear Future Self (Hands Up)’ featuring Wyclef Jean and ‘Bob Dylan’. Throw into the mix albums like 2005’s From Under The Cork Tree or 2007’s Infinity On High and we cannot wait to see just what they pack into their upcoming live shows.

The trio wouldn’t be complete without California rockers Weezer. Fronted by the effervescent Rivers Cuomo, released their iconic debut self-titled full-length – since nicknamed the Blue Album – back in 1994 and blessing us with the tune ‘Buddy Holly’. Since then they’ve given us 12 stellar albums, including 2019’s double hit with both the Teal and Black albums. Now album number 14 Van Weezer is set to see the band move away from the pop-rock and electropop of their most recent records, instead focussing on big guitars. Cuomo even promising that when they perform 2005 single ‘Beverly Hills’ we’ll get to hear will feature a guitar solo that isn’t even in the studio version – get ready for the shreds.

Weezer - The End Of The Game (Official Video)

In 2019 we couldn’t get enough of Kiwi rockers The Bethsso we are stoked to announce that they will be joining this incredible lineup on every show of the tour. Their bright pop hooks, pop-punk grit, and indie-rock charm has seen them winning fans all over the world – joining Death Cab For Cutie on their UK/European tour, taking on a North American co-headline tour of their own and making appearances at SXSW, The Great Escape, Pukkelpop, Green Man, and Splendour In The Grass. And that is only scratching the surface. Their 2018 debut album Future Me Hates Me was heralded as one of the standout releases of that year, and with their second album in the works, the sky is nowhere near the limit here.
