The flourishing programme packs in around 370 performances in total. With that, around 100 events are performed by over 700 artists in more than 30 venues each year. There’s also a broad range of free events alongside accessible pricing policies for the ticketed offerings.
The heart of the city
All this takes place in the heart of Sydney’s bustling city. The first festival took place in 1977 and has since grown to become one of Australia’s largest annual and cultural celebrations. It’s thanks to its prime location too that Sydney Festival successfully attracts locals and visitors alike.

Yep, there’s great food too. Curated by award-winning chef Kylie Kwong and inspired by the streets of Harajuku (Tokyo), Hongdae (Seoul) and AnFu Lu (Shanghai), the Night Market will immerse you in the food, the pop culture and the sounds of contemporary Asia. Showcasing Sydney’s best producers and chefs with more than 50 stalls presenting the very best in Asian food. Yum.
