Our rundown of our fave Elton John covers
With a songbook as celebrated as Elton John, it's no surprise that his songs are so well covered. We set ourselves the tast of picking the best of the bunch, and though debate was hot throughout TM HQ, here are our top eight.
Elton John is a musical/lyrical genius, fact.
So naturally many artists over the years have enjoyed covering an array of hits from his huge back catalogue.
To celebrate our excitement for his upcoming Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, we’ve hand-picked a few of our favourites, and boy was it tricky. This list could have been huge, but after much deliberation, we picked our favourites.
1. Your Song by Ellie Goulding.
This cover helped Brit Ellie Goulding go from talented up-and-comer to world-class star and we are forever grateful for this lovely version of Your Song.
2. The Bitch Is Back by Miley Cyrus
Who doesn’t love a sneaky fiddle in a cover? We’re loving this country cover big time.
3. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Sarah Bareilles
This heartfelt, piano-heavy cover is everything.
4. Sacrifice by Ed Sheeran and James Blunt
One of our favourite bromances in pop came together for this beaut of a performance.
5. Crocodile Rock by The Beach Boys
Anyone that says this version isn’t a guilty pleasure of theirs is lying.
6. Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters by Maren Morris
The country star is hitting up Australia in August and we love her rendition of this one.
7. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart by Q-Tip featuring Demi Lovato
Everything about this cover is soulful, sexy, and modern and we are here for it.
8. Tiny Dancer by Florence + The Machine
The Queen of Indie lays down some impressive pipes on this one.
There you have it. Now go forth and discover more, as there’s plenty of epic Elton John covers out there.
