We dig deeper into the Download Festival line-up

From the world’s best to the up and comers you need to know, Download Festival 2019 has you sorted.

We’ve had a couple of weeks to let it soak in, but we still can’t get over the 2019 Download Festival line-up. Thank the heavy music gods everywhere for this blessing.

Download is the world’s most prestigious rock and metal festival for a reason, and they’ve lined up the perfect mix of heavyweight legends and the best up and comers to ensure your moshpit dreams are truly fulfilled.

Here’s everything you need to know about the acts we’re most excited to see.

Ozzy Osbourne

We’re sure you’re no stranger to the legend that is Ozzy Osbourne. After five decades ruling the scene, both as a solo artist and as lead singer of Black Sabbath, it’s hard not to feel a little bittersweet about his farewell Australian performances. You may be surprised to know that we actually owe The Prince of Darkness’ beginnings to none other than The Beatles, specifically their delightful 1963 classic She Loves You – who would’ve thought?

Slayer

It seems farewells come in pairs, and after 37 years, thrash titans Slayer are also calling it a day. One of the most influential bands in metal history, their reputation and unmatched live energy sets this up as a not-to-miss performance. What other band can say they were banned from the Hollywood Palladium for 25 years after starting a riot that left the venue with a few less windows?

Alice In Chains

It may have taken five years, but Alice In Chains picked up right where they left off with their sixth album Rainer Fog – capturing the glory of their early days while proving their legacy isn’t cemented in the past.If their latest live reviews are anything to go by, the masters of the grunge ballad are sure to have you feeling all the feels.

Rise Against

For 18 years, Rise Against have provided us with anthem after anthem – from songs that hold up a middle finger to the establishment to those that take a deeper look inwards, when they hit the stage with their signature mix of hardcore punk and melodic hardcore you can bet it’s going to hit hard.

The Amity Affliction

The Australian Download contingent definitely holds its own, and leading the way is none other than our much-loved metalcore sons The Amity Affliction. No strangers to festival stages, this will be our first chance to see tracks from their latest album Miserylive – with its electronic elements, huge hooks, and focus on clean vocals, we’re sure to see a new energy behind this Amity show.

New bands, familiar faces

Mixed in with the heavyweights, the Download lineup also features some faces you might recognise, now in their newest musical forms. Founding member of rockers Black Veil Brides, Andy Biersack (FKA Andy Six) is set to bring his solo project Andy Black Down Under – think a reverently classic sound with an injection of pop music goodness. Californian hardcore punk outfit The Fever 333 is leading the charge in the next musical uprising. Bringing together ex-The Chariot guitarist Stephen Harrison, Night Verses drummer Aric Improta and ex-letlive. vocalist Jason Aalon Butler don’t expect anything less than absolute mayhem.

The locals do it best

The future of Australia’s alternative music scene is well represented too. Rock and roll with a dash of punk and a bucketload of heart, if you’re not acquainted with Tassie’s Luca Brasi you definitely want to be. Kicking things up to 100, the 1-2 punch of hardcore brutality that is Melbourne’s High Tension and Outright will blow you away. With musicianship tighter than their years should allow, and powerhouse vocalists Karina Uomo and Jelena Goluza leading the way, our hardcore scene is in very safe hands.
