Etihad Stadium is one of the busiest stadiums in the world. While it is best known for its sports events such as AFL, A-League and the Big Bash League, it also hosts major concerts, on arena functions and entertainment events.

The upcoming weeks and months at Etihad Stadium are among some of the busiest the venue has ever experienced. They are set to host major sporting matches, unbelievable entertainment events and a couple of rock concerts that may just blow the roof off the joint.

VFL and TAC Cup Grand Finals
Sunday September 27 at 11.15am and 3pm

The VFL Grand Final is a brilliant showcase of quality football at a reasonable price. The Box Hill Hawks will take on Williamstown in what promises to be a fantastic, fierce and competitive Grand Final at Etihad Stadium on Sunday September 27. But before the VFL decider, the very best young talent will be on display when the Eastern Ranges take on the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup Grand Final. The VFL Grand Final will be on at 3pm with the TAC Cup decider beginning at 11.15am.

Melbourne Derby – Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City
Saturday October 17 at 7.30pm

If an electric atmosphere is what you are after, you can’t go past the colour and excitement of the Melbourne Derby at Etihad Stadium when Melbourne Victory welcomes Melbourne City to its home turf. The fierce rivals attract a monster crowd to their grudge matches at Etihad Stadium and the on-field action is always equal to the off-field energy and fun. This is one A-League match you do not want to miss.

Australian FIM Speedway Grand Prix
Saturday October 24 at 7.15pm

People who are accustomed to seeing sportspeople running around Etihad Stadium’s playing surface will be shocked to see the arena transformed into a dirt track for FIM Speedway, which will hit the venue on October 24. The 2015 FIM Speedway champion will be crowned at the conclusion of the Australian event – the first on our shores for 13 years. Ticket holders are also welcome to attend an exclusive practice session on October 23.

UFC 193
Sunday November 15 at 10.15am

UFC 193 is bringing some of the sport’s biggest names to town for an incredible day of match ups which include two title fights and the rematch of what many believe is the greatest ever heavyweight fight. The main event will see global superstar Ronda Rousey taking on Holly Holm, a 19-time world boxing champion. AC/DC
Sunday December 6 at 6pm

When it comes to rock, no one can match the legendary AC/DC. Angus, Brian and the gang are set to return to Etihad Stadium – where they welcomed more than 180,000 fans to three performances in 2010 – and they will lift the roof off the stadium. The energy of an AC/DC concert simply cannot be matched; the sea of fans with glowing red horns really is something to behold. And the music of the iconic Aussie rockers speaks for itself.

Big Bash League – Melbourne Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades – one of the biggest and best teams in the Big Bash League – call Etihad Stadium home. Rain, hail or shine, the Renegades and their fans know they will get to see quality Twenty20 cricket under the stadium’s iconic retractable roof. The Renegades consistently attract some of the best names in cricket and already they have signed big-hitting West Indian players Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo as well as Cameron White. The players will join captain Aaron Finch and other high profile players including Peter Siddle, Xavier Doherty, Matthew Wade and James Pattinson.  The Renegades will take on the Sydney Sixers on December 23, the Perth Scorchers on December 30, the Melbourne Stars on January 9, 2016, and the Sydney Strikers on January 18, 2016.

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will march into Etihad Stadium in February 2016 and the excitement has been nothing short of overwhelming. Etihad Stadium will come alive as hundreds of performers take to the arena in front of a full-size Edinburgh Castle replica. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most famous events in the world and attracts an annual television audience of 100 million. A-League Season

On top of the Melbourne Derby, Melbourne Victory will host four other blockbuster matches at Etihad Stadium. The Docklands venue hosts five of Victory’s biggest matches each A-League season enabling the club to play in front of the biggest crowds in the league. In Season 2015/16 MVFC will host Wellington Phoenix on Melbourne Cup eve (November 2), Adelaide United on November 28, Sydney FC on Australia Day (January 26, 2016) and the Western Sydney Wanderers on February 6, 2016.

Cricket – Melbourne Renegades v Melbourne Stars

Melbourne’s two Big Bash League sides will blow the roof off Etihad Stadium when the sides take to the field for an epic grudge match on Saturday January 9. The BBL has enjoyed a huge rise in popularity over the past couple seasons thanks to big-hitting, excitement-filled T20 cricket. The League is consistently attracting the best local and international talent and there is a lot of player movement between these two sides, which only adds to the competitiveness of the matches they play against each other. Twenty20 matches at Etihad Stadium are very family friendly and feature fantastic colour, sounds and atmosphere.

Season 2015 is not yet behind us, but for 14 Clubs and their supporters, minds have already wandered to Season 2016 and what might be. Etihad Stadium hosts in the vicinity of 50 AFL matches each year with tenant clubs – Essendon, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Carlton and St Kilda – all featuring prominently. While the official AFL fixture won’t be released until October, you can be sure Etihad Stadium will host many of the best games of the year. Round 1 will be here before we know it so get ready to turn all your focus onto Season 2016 very soon.
