We have it on good authority that one of the most requested Bluesfest acts is Dave Matthews Band, so we know there are a lot of happy punters this morning. This will be DWB’s third appearance at the festival, and if the previous two are anything to go by, they are very worthy headliners. Prepare yourself for a tent full of happy, dancing, fans.

We all know us Australians have a habit of claiming the best New Zealand acts, and they don’t get much bigger than Crowded House. Making their Bluesfest trip even more special is the fact that this will be an exclusive Australian performance. Neil Finn will be taking a break from touring with Fleetwood Mac to kick off the next Crowded House chapter so you better prepare your lungs for singing along to ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, ‘Weather With You’, and ‘Better Be Home Soon’.

After conquering Bluesfest in 2017, the imitable Patti Smith will bring her band back to our shores. Her artistic accomplishments need little introduction – from Helpmann Award winner to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, best-selling author, Polar Music Prize winner – the list literally goes on and on. But it’s on the live stage that the godmother of punk truly shines brightest.

The legends continue with the incredible George Benson. Universally recognised as one of the world’s greatest guitarists, he has 10 Grammy Awards under his belt, sitting alongside the ‘Jazz Master’ honour he was awarded in 2009 by the National Endowment of the Arts. Also making their Bluesfest debut is three-time Grammy Aware winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who is currently celebrating a top-notch year thanks to her latest album By The Way I Forgive You, now Australian fans finally have the chance to hear her new songs live.

That’s just the tip of the Bluesfest 2020 first announcement. There are some of the festival’s favourite sons including John Butler, Xavier Rudd, and The Cat Empire raring to go, as will Jenny Lewis following the release of her fourth solo album, UK punk-folk poet Frank Turner (last seen at Bluesfest in 2014), and even John Mayall who was present at the second-ever Bluesfest back in 1991.

What makes next year’s Bluesfest even more exciting? There are still a stack of lineup announcements to come.

Byron Bay Bluesfest 2020 will take over Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay NSW from Thursday 9 April until Monday 13 April. Tickets are available via our mates at Moshtix.
