Apocalyptica perform Metallica covers on cellos

Arguably one of the most unique and captivating metal bands on earth, Apocalyptica will return to Australian stages this September

Four-piece cello outfit Apocalyptica are set to keep Australia’s love affair with metal giants Metallica going when they land on our shores later this year.

Having previously sold out solo runs around Australia, and surprised fans on Soundwave Festival in 2015, the Finnish ‘cello metal’ group are no strangers to Australia. But, if you’re yet to be acquainted with their brilliantly unique take on our favourite metal classics, let us introduce you.

The Finnish, cello-driven group changes the landscape of both heavy and classical music when they released their album Plays Metallica by Four Cellos in 1996. Since then, they’ve built a reputation for memorable and much talked about live shows, blurring the line between metal, classical, theatre, and rock-opera.

After playing almost 200 Plays Metallica by Four Cellos concerts in more than 40 countries, Apocalyptica went on to release seven critically-acclaimed albums, selling over six million records worldwide.

When they land in Australia this time, they’ll perform the entire Plays Metallica by Four Cellos – including newly added tracks, Battery, Nothing Else Matters and Seek & Destroy, which were added to the record for its 20th anniversary in 2016 – alongside extra Metallica covers.

And with the amount of love Australian music fans currently have for Metallica, these shows are set to be a special, memorable, and unique experience.
