Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to welcome Bollywood star guest AR Rahman

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is gearing up to share the stage with a very special guest performer in AR Rahman in 2017.

The prolific, award-winning composer will appear alongside the orchestra and conductor Matt Dunkley for The Music of Ar Rahman, in what will be a stunning Asia TOPA exclusive.

If you’re not familiar with AR Rahman at first, you’ll most definitely recognise his work from the soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire.

Also known for worldwide hit, Jai Ho, the famed music maker has two Academy Awards to his name, as well as two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA and a Golden God.

Not bad, eh?

“In India, a country of a billion inhabitants, where film and pop music are one, A.R. Rahman, dominates the music industry so totally that he has supplied the sound track for a whole generation,” said Time magazine.

“He enjoys the godlike devotion of India’s youth, but everyone from the street child who sweeps train platforms to the middle-aged doctor in Mumbai’s posh Malabar Hill hums his tunes.”

As if that wasn’t enough, even more guest soloists are still be announced for the show.

This stunning music spectacle comes to the Arts Centre Melbourne, Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday 16 February – secure your seats now at Ticketmaster.co.uk.
