Five of the best: Riverstage events

Queensland’s Riverstage is one of the state’s premier venues and regularly hosts incredible entertainment events and concerts.

Some of the biggest names in the business have graced the stage of Riverstage, with music icons such as Ed Sheeran, Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons, Sam Smith, Lorde and Rodriguez all having performed at the venue.

And the big names don’t stop there. Over the coming weeks and months, Riverstage will host some incredible acts, including the five we have selected for this edition of Five of the Best.

Culture Club

Culture Club was a massive hit in the 1980s and catapulted lead singer, Boy George, to superstardom. The group had loads of hits throughout the world including Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Karma Chameleon, Church of the Poison Mind, Miss Me Blind, Move Away and Time (Clock of the Heart). The British band was comprised of Boy George, Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss and Culture Club is embarking on a tour of Australia. Now is your chance to see one of the 80s supergroups live on stage! It has been more than 15 years since Culture Club has been on our shores so take the chance to see them in the flesh.

5 Seconds of Summer

This Aussie foursome was catapulted to world superstardom in 2014 when their single She Looks So Perfect shot to the top of the charts in Australia, the UK and Ireland. Calum, Ashton, Michael and Luke met at high school and gained a dedicated following as YouTube stars before hitting the big time with their self-titled 2014 album. The guys have opened for the world’s biggest boy band One Direction, but now it is time for 5 Seconds of Summer to shine! The guys are set to hit the stage at Riverstage in October so get your tickets now!

Troye Sivan

You’ve seen his films and you’ve watched him on YouTube, but now it is time to hear Troye Sivan live on stage. The South African-born singer songwriter recently released his debut album, Blue Neighbourhood to critical and popular acclaim. Blue Neighbourhood has already enjoyed many smash hit singles including Youth, Fools, Wild and Talk Me Down. Troye Sivan is an incredible talent with an amazing message. Make sure you are at Riverstage in August to see him live on stage!

Vance Joy

Aussie singer songwriter Vance Joy is one of the most sought after performers in the country at the moment. The amazingly talented Melburnian is bringing his Fire and the Flood tour to Riverstage and this is one show you do not want to miss. Most people came to know Vance Joy after he released the hit track Riptide in 2013. Among those who got to know his name was pop megastar Taylor Swift, who covered the track and invited Joy on her world tour. Since Riptide, Vance Joy has released more hits including Mess is Mine, Georgia and Fire and the Flood. Expect to hear a lot more from him in the future and in the meantime, get yourself a ticket to see and hear him live.

Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding has quickly become one of the world’s top pop performers releasing many hit singles and providing vocals for some of Calvin Harris’ best-known tracks. The English songstress is super talented; as well as singing and song writing, Ellie Goulding is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. With many hit singles under her belt – think Love Me Like You Do, Burn, How Long Will I Love You, Lights, On My Mind and Anything Could Happen – Ellie Goulding is one of pop’s hottest acts right now. Luckily for us, she is set to hit our shores for her Delirium world tour. Get on board now because this is one show you will want to see in 2016.
