To celebrate this exciting announcement, Ticketmaster Blog decided to feature Ellie Goulding in this edition of Five of the Best. So sit back, relax and enjoy our countdown of Ellie Goulding’s top five tracks (as well as a few bonus tracks for good measure).

5 Army

Army was the second single from Ellie Goulding’s third album Delirium. The song could easily be interpreted as a ballad for a significant other, but in this case, Goulding has explained the track was written about her best friend. The track is a touching song that explores the power of female friendship. It is a departure from Goulding’s signature sound; she is best known for dance tracks with powerful vocals, but Army is a very good example of Goulding’s song writing ability as well as an insight into her personal life.

4 Lights

Lights represents that very unique situation for an artist when the song is more popular abroad than in the singer’s homeland. In the UK, Lights only made it to number 49 on the charts, but it peaked at number two in the USA and was a top 10 hit in Belgium, Canada, Austria, Poland and Slovakia. Interestingly, the song is actually about Goulding’s childhood fear of the dark.

3 How Long Will I Love You

This song could be placed in the ‘I had no idea it was a cover’ category. Originally released in 1990 by The Waterboys, the track was actually written in 1975. But it was Ellie Goulding’s 2013 cover that shot the song into the spotlight. Her soulful and poignant cover really highlights the sentimental lyrics and the accompanying music, which is piano-heavy but subtle, is the perfect accompaniment. We think this is a really great example of Goulding’s ability to make something her own and give it a whole new flavour. Plus – the film clip is heaps of fun. Check it out below.

2 Burn

Burn was a massive worldwide hit for Ellie Goulding, but it almost didn’t make it to the singer’s repertoire. Originally recorded by Leona Lewis, the song didn’t make her album and was subsequently picked up by Goulding. Upon release in 2013, Burn earned Goulding her first UK number one. The track was also a top 10 hit all over the world and has become one of Goulding’s signature tunes.

1 Love Me Like You Do

No pressure, Ellie, but we’d like you to write and perform the signature song of one of the most anticipated movies of the year! Luckily, she nailed it. Love Me Like You Do was the lead song on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack and was a number one song in many countries throughout the world. While not written by Goulding, the track is perfectly suited to her voice and musical style. It is essentially an electro pop song merged with an epic power ballad and it is expertly delivered by Goulding’s soaring voice. As well as being her biggest hit to date, we think Love Me Like You Do is a defining Ellie Goulding song and one she will be remembered for well into the future. Seeing her perform this track live will be an extraordinary experience, so don’t miss out!

Her best as featured artist…

I Need Your Love

Musically, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding are a match made in heaven. Together they have produced a couple of very popular singles including I Need Your Love, which was a top 10 hit in many countries throughout the world. Released in 2013, I Need Your Love is an upbeat dance track and a wonderful example of Goulding’s excellent vocal ability.

Outside

Another Calvin Harris-Ellie Goulding cover that enjoyed a great amount of success was Outside. The 2014 single was a commercial success, particularly on the dance charts. Outside gave Calvin Harris his eighth number one single on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Sow Airplay, surpassing David Guetta and Madonna.

And one cover for good measure…

Your Song

Ellie Goulding had enormous success with her cover of Elton John’s 1970 hit, Your Song, and her choice to pay homage to Elton’s ballad took her places she could never have imagined. Goulding performed the song at the wedding reception of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace. The newlywed royals had their first dance to Goulding’s version of the classic song.
